Biography
Dr. Nacxit Calderon Trejos is a clinical assistant professor at University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, where he contributes to both preclinical and didactic education within the Division of Clinic Essentials and Simulation. He serves as course director for Simulation and Restorative/Fixed Dentistry courses, focusing on the development of foundational clinical skills for predoctoral students.
Dr. Calderon Trejos holds a leadership role as co-director of Simulation Education Innovation, where he is actively involved in advancing digital dentistry integration within the curriculum. His work includes implementing intraoral scanning in daily projects, digital design and objective preparation analysis to enhance student learning and improve faculty calibration and consistency in evaluation.
He also serves as chair of the Materials and Instrumentation Committee, leading initiatives to standardize materials selection and support evidence-based clinical and educational practices within the institution.
Prior to joining UDM, Dr. Calderon Trejos practiced clinical dentistry and was involved in dental education in Nicaragua for nearly nine years, gaining extensive experience in restorative and comprehensive patient care.
Originally trained in Nicaragua, Dr. Calderon Trejos brings an international perspective to dental education. His academic interests include restorative dentistry, adhesive materials, digital workflows and curriculum innovation. He is actively engaged in educational research and scholarly activities related to digital dentistry and preclinical training.
