Biography
Dr. Chawan Rasheed is a clinical assistant professor at University of Detroit Mercy School of Optometry. She is a native Memphian, spending most of her educational career obtaining her degrees/certifications in the city.
Her excitement for academia encouraged Dr. Rasheed to remain at Southern College of Optometry after completing her residency, where she joined as full-time faculty, supervising student clinicians in the adult primary care, cornea and contact lens and nursing home/assisted living departments. She has been a part of multiple national and international mission trips, both as a student and as an attending doctor, to Mexico, Ecuador and Belize. She has also presented multiple continued education courses on the topics of anterior segment and specialty contact lenses.
Dr. Rasheed moved to metro Detroit area in January 2024 after getting married and started seeing patients at the University of Detroit Mercy Eye Institute soon after. Aside from the joy she feels when fitting a variety of corneal pathologies with specialty lenses, she is also passionate about educating her patients on overall health and its impacts on ocular health.
Dr. Rasheed is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Michigan Optometric Association.
Outside of optometry, she enjoys outdoor walks and hikes, visiting gardens, caring for her various plants and trying sourdough recipes.
