Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

The practice of Mindfulness teaches participants to change the way they experience themselves and their world. Mindfulness techniques cultivate steadiness, health and wholeness even during the most difficult moments. Skillfully applied, mindfulness-based approaches provide powerful tools that enhance effective coping skills and personal growth. When practiced regularly, these techniques can help you to discover a new way of living which reflects a happier and more fulfilling life.

Mindful Yoga

Through yoga, you can release the emotional toxicity stored in the body. Just as changing thought patterns can influence the body, changing the position of the body can influence the mind and facilitate emotional release. As you stretch your muscles and expand your range of motion, you shift the bodily patterns that trap emotional pain. Yoga poses, breathing practices, and meditation release the constriction and allow for movement. Mindful Yoga encourages you to move in a way that feels good for YOU. Trust yourself and your body.

Healthy Relationships

Relationships are, to a large part, wanted and desired by most people. However no relationship is perfect. A mostly healthy relationship should bring more happiness than stress into one’s life. There is a strong component of mutuality in healthy relationships grounded in separate identities from which trust, respect, honesty, fairness, and sense of tenderness and playfulness flow. When the relationship has been tipped to the stressful side, it may be helpful to talk with a therapist to either explore or expand on one’s inner strengths to restore relational mutuality or be supported if dissolution becomes the healthy solution.

Student Nutrition and Body Image Awareness

Diets don’t work! – Healthy Lifestyles do! Our providers at the Wellness Center work as a team to help students eat well, be active, and feel good about their bodies. Our goal is to help prevent nutrition-related health problems (poor nutrient intake, eating disorders, overweight/obesity, and size prejudice) which can threaten students' academic and developmental success. Nutrition services along with varied outreach activities are available to help students understand the food choices they make and assist them with dietary recommendations to achieve and maintain good health.

Substance Misuse/Abuse

Our center provides substance abuse screening, assessment, harm reduction, prevention, and counseling. Counseling services include education, group counseling, and time-limited individual counseling related to substance use and abuse. We will also provide referrals to students who seek more intensive substance abuse treatment or wish to seek a counselor outside of the university setting.
