Eckhause, Melissa
Melissa Eckhause
Assistant Professor of Law, received her B.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin, her J.D. from the University of Detroit Mercy, and her LL.M. from the University of California at Berkeley. She joined the University in 2020 as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Law. In 2022, she was promoted to Assistant Professor of Law. She previously taught at the University of Southern California, Golden Gate University School of Law, and Texas A&M University School of Law. Her research lies at the intersection of technology, intellectual property law, and art, and focuses on the rights of visual artists, musicians, and other creators in the digital age.

Eisenhauer, Joseph G.
Joseph Eisenhauer
Dean, College of Business Administration and Professor of Economics, earned a B.S. from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the State University of New York at Buffalo. A former banker, he has been a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Wharton School, a Visiting Professor at the Universita di Roma, La Sapienza in Italy, and a Visiting Scholar at the Catholic University of America. He has published extensively in the areas of risk and insurance, ethics, social economics, and statistics. Prior to joining Detroit Mercy, he was chair of Economics at Wright State University in Ohio. He joined the University in 2010.

Eisenstein, Julia L.
Julia L. Eisenstein
Associate Librarian, Reference, McNichols Campus Library, provides reference service and research skills instruction. Eisenstein is responsible for collection management in the areas psychology, religious studies, catholic studies, counseling, and decision science. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Loyola University of Chicago, a Master of Arts in Psychology from Boston University, and a Master of Library and Information Science from Wayne State University. Eisenstein joined the University in 2008.

Ericson, Karl A.
Karl A. Ericson
Assistant Librarian Reference, McNichols Campus Library, provides reference service and research skills instruction. Ericson is responsible for collection management in the areas of accounting, addiction studies, African-American studies, sociology, social work, and women's and gender studies. He holds a Master of Library and Information Science from Wayne State University and a Bachelor of Science from Grand Valley State University. Ericson joined the University in 2012.

Eschelman, Lee
Lee Eshelman
Assistant Professor of Psychology, teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in psychology. Eshelman holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from Miami University. She completed an APA accredited clinical psychology internship at University of Wisconsin – Department of Psychiatry and a postdoctoral fellowship in Women’s Health with the University of Michigan Medicine/VA Ann Arbor Consortium. Eshelman is the director of the Trauma, REsilience, and Empowerment (TREE) Lab at University of Detroit Mercy. Broadly, her research program focuses on understanding the impact of trauma on emotion regulation and psychological outcomes such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use. Eshelman's current program of research examines how individual, cultural, and societal factors influence outcomes of interpersonal trauma. Her current projects include understanding how Black women’s experiences of interpersonal trauma and racism-related stressors influence mental health outcomes, help-seeking behaviors, disclosure and resilience. Recently completed research projects examine how PTSD influences emotion regulation abilities among survivors of sexual violence and how men’s experiences of sexual abuse influence mental health and perceptions of their own masculinity. She also maintains collaborations with researchers at other institutions in related areas (e.g., trauma among sexual minority women, interpersonal violence and suicidal behaviors, military sexual trauma, etc.). She joined the University in 2019.

Evans, Kendra
Kendra Evans
Associate Professor, Chemistry and Biochemistry, teaches general chemistry, quantitative analysis, instrumental analysis, and research methods. She earned a B.S. in Chemistry at Western Kentucky University and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Michigan. Her research interests include liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry-based analyses of tissue and water samples, as well as the development, implementation, and assessment of course-based undergraduate research experiences. She is the 2015 recipient of the Detroit Mercy Faculty Achievement Award and the 2015 Science Faculty of the Year Award. Evans serves as the vice president of ANACHEM (Association of Analytical Chemists) and is the research enrichment core leader for University of Detroit Mercy's ReBUILDetroit Program.

Exum, Jelani Jefferson
Jelani Jefferson Exum
Dean, School of Law and the Philip J. McElroy Professor of Law, received her A.B. from Harvard College and her J.D. from Harvard Law School. She clerked for Judge James Dennis on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit and Judge Eldon Fallon of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. She then served as a Forrester Fellow at Tulane University Law School. Before joining Detroit Mercy Law, Jefferson Exum served as professor and associate dean for diversity and inclusion at the University of Toledo College of Law. She is a nationally recognized expert in criminal sentencing, as well as race and the American criminal justice system, and serves on the editorial board of the Federal Sentencing Reporter. She joined the University as the Philip J. McElroy Professor of Law in 2019 and became Dean of the Law School in 2021.
