Biography

Dr. Noura Ismail is a full-time lecturer in the Biology Department at University of Detroit Mercy. She has taught a wide range of disciplines with a focus on general biology, microbiology, anatomy and physiology at many colleges and universities around metro Detroit since 2012.

She earned her doctoral degree from Ohio State University. Her research focused on the role of microvesicles in blood, which were often regarded as debris. She identified the presence of microRNAs in the microvesicles and consequently the function of these in macrophage differentiation, which may provide insight to understanding inflammatory diseases. Dr. Ismail and the research team received a patent for their work in 2010.

Dr. Ismail has tremendous passion for teaching and is committed to students’ success. She continues to pursue new pedagogy to promote student learning and inclusive teaching. Dr. Ismail is an honors student mentor and has worked with several students over the past few semesters to guide them as they completed their honors thesis.
