    Award Notification

Students with complete financial aid applications will be notified of their Financial Aid Award beginning in April.  The notifications will be sent by email to the student’s Detroit Mercy email address.

Students will be instructed to review their award and pending requirements by logging into My Portal account.  Students can accept, decline or reduce the award presented right from their My Portal account.  The Scholarship and Financial Aid Office will not be mailing award letters to students.  All account information can be viewed in their My Portal account, including class schedule, tuition and fees.

    Haven’t received an award notification?

Financial aid applications are commonly selected for verification.  Each year the federal government selects families to verify the information submitted on the FAFSA. At least 30% of all financial aid applications are federally selected for verification. To find out if you have been selected for verification, check your financial aid requirements on My Portal. See more on the verification process.

    University Scholarships and Grants

Scholarship and grant amounts may be prorated from previous year award based on cumulative grade point average (GPA) at time of award. You can view your GPA in Self Serve, from the My Portal.

Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Probation Contracts

Contracts for students not meeting SAP standards are emailed prior to the start of the term for which the student is on probation.  The contracts must be signed by the student and the student’s academic advisor and returned before any federal or state aid can be applied to the student’s account.

Students who are offered contracts and show progress, but do not yet meet SAP standards may be offered contracts for subsequent terms until he or she finally meet the requirements.

Loan Limits and Direct, Grad PLUS and Federal Perkins Loan History

Federal loan programs have annual and cumulative maximums. Students can view their borrowing history at studentaid.gov. Students can view total debt as well as each Direct Stafford, Grad Plus and a combined Federal Perkins Loan; including contact information for each lender and servicer.  Studentaid.gov is a great tool in managing student loans.  To view your loans, log into studentaid.gov, then accept the terms and conditions in the pop up box.  Your loans will be found on your dashboard when you sign in, under "My Aid".  If you click "View Details", you will be able to view your loan Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU) for your loans by clicking on the Loans tabs under "My Aid".
