Description

The Certificate in Business Turnaround Management is designed to give students a comprehensive grounding in the current body of knowledge and skills in business turnaround management. The certificate was developed with the ongoing collaboration of business turnaround professionals and executives from Michigan.

    Admission Requirements

    Admission decisions are based on an undergraduate GPA, GMAT score (if needed), work experience, and other degrees.

    • Complete the Online Application (application fee is waived);
    • Official transcripts for all previous academic work;
    • A resume;
    • Letter of Recommendation (included in the online application); and
    • Applicants are welcome to include any other information they feel is important to the admission consideration. This information can be uploaded while completing the online application.

    Requirements for the Certificate in Business Turnaround Management (15 credits)

    The Graduate Certificate in Business Turnaround Management is a 15 credit-hour program.

    • BTM 5000 or MBA 5640 Business Turnaround Management (3 credits)
    • BTM 5500 Ethical and Critical Thinking (3 credits)  OR
    • MBA 5210 Personal Development, Ethics, and Social Responsibility (3 credits)

    Elective Courses (3 courses required)

    • BTM 5150 Strategic and Legal Bankruptcy (3 credits)
    • BTM 5200 Motivation and Negotiations Management (3 credits)
    • BTM 5350 Organizational Change and Development (3 credits)
    • BTM 5400 Cash Crisis Management (3 credits)
    • BTM 5420 Corporate Fraud Detection and Prevention Management (3 credits)
    • BTM 5450 Corporate Restructuring for Business Turnaround (3 credits)
    • BTM 5550 Lean Management (3 credits)
    • BTM 5650 Supply Chain Management for Turnarounds (3 credits)
    • BTM 5850 Debt, Equity and Financing Structuring (3 credits)

    Foundation Courses

    Students are expected to demonstrate a minimum competence in accounting and financial management. This is possible by evidence in their transcript or by successfully completing ACC 5100 and/or MBA 5180.

    • ACC 5100 Corporate Financial Accounting (3 credits)
    • MBA 5180 Fundamentals of Financial Management (3 credits)

    MBA with Certificate

    MBA students may focus in BTM by using their three MBA electives to take MBA 5640 or BTM 5000 plus two BTM courses from the BTM curriculum. In order to receive the Certificate in Business Turnaround Management, two additional BTM elective courses are required beyond the MBA degree requirements, totaling five courses. For details, a student should consult with the Director of Graduate Business Programs.
