Make a Gift: Engineering 3rd Floor Renovations

Progress starts with strong foundations—sometimes literally. Thanks to a generous gift from engineering alum Mark Haidar, we’ve launched long-needed renovations to the third floor of Engineering. The project is underway, but like any good engineering work, it isn’t complete until it’s done right.

Mark’s journey shows the power of perseverance and a Detroit Mercy education. After immigrating from Lebanon at 17, he earned his computer engineering degree here and went on to co-found successful tech companies including Vinli and Dialexa. Inspired in our own labs, Mark is now giving back to help future engineers succeed.

The third-floor upgrades will create a modern, student-centered space with clearer signage, inspirational art, energy-efficient lighting, and improved acoustics. Next steps include new flooring, doors, and more natural light to complete the transformation.

The full project cost is $240,000. Thanks to the Haidar family, $170,000 is already secured—we need to raise $75,000 more to finish the job.

Every gift, large or small, helps create an inspiring space where students can innovate, collaborate, and thrive. Together, we can ensure the third floor remains a place where great ideas come to life.
