Currently enrolled Detroit Mercy undergraduates may submit work in up to two of the following categories:

Category I: Poetry

  • A portfolio of 3-5 poems

Category II: Academic Essay

  • An essay of no more than 5,000 words (including citations/notes and references)

Category III: Short fiction

  • A story of no more than 5,000 words

Category IV: Personal essay

  • An essay of no more than 5,000 words

How do I submit?

  1. Do not put your name on any page of the piece(s) you’re submitting. Instead, put your student ID (T#) on each page.
  2. Give the piece(s) you’re submitting a file name that includes your last name and the
    contest category—for example: “Smith_poetry.”
  3. Submit the WGS Writing Competition Submission Form, uploading separate Word or PDF files there.
  4. Any Questions? Email: wgs@udmercy.edu

The submission deadline is Monday, March 18.
