History Minor

Description

With University of Detroit Mercy's 18-credit History minor, you have the freedom to choose the area of history that interests you, such as United States history, the European sequence or a more world viewpoint. An exit interview and mini portfolio are required at the end of the coursework.

    Requirements for the History Minor (18 credits)

    The minor in History consists of completion of 18 hours of approved coursework with at least an overall C average.

    Take one course from the following (3 credits):

    • HIS 1500 Introduction to History (3 credits)
    • HIS 2640 Comparative Civilizations (3 credits)

    Take two courses from the following 2000-level courses (6 credits):
    U.S. Sequence:

    • HIS 2500 United States History to 1877 (3 credits)
    • HIS 2510 United States Since 1877 (3 credits)

    European Sequence:

    • HIS 2000 The Ancient Mediterranean World (3 credits)
    • HIS 2100 Medieval Europe (3 credits)
    • HIS 2200 Early Modern Europe (3 credits)
    • HIS 2300 Europe in the 19th and 20th Century (3 credits)

    World Sequence:

    • HIS 2400 Modern Middle East (3 credits)
    • HIS 2640 * Comparative Civilizations (3 credits)
    • HIS 2800 Modern Latin America (3 credits)
    • HIS 2900 Modern Africa (3 credits)

    *If HIS 1500 is completed above.

    Take three HIS courses at the 3000-4000 level (9 credits)

    Other requirements:

    • Exit interview
    • Mini-Portfolio - The portfolio consists of five to six class assignments or projects selected by the student and the History minor advisor as examples of the student's best work. The portfolio should demonstrate proficiency and growth in the understanding and application of concepts related to history.
