  •

What are accommodations, and how do I know if I qualify?

Accommodations are changes or adjustments that help remove barriers caused by a disability. If you have a physical, mental, learning or chronic health condition that affects your access to your programs or activities, we can make reasonable adjustments to remove barriers to equal access.

  •

    How do I request accommodations?

Start by filling out the Request for Accommodations form. Then, we’ll schedule a meeting to discuss your needs in more detail. It’s a collaborative process.

  •

Do I need a diagnosis or paperwork to request accommodations?

Yes. Documentation from your healthcare provider is usually required. Contact us if you have questions about what documentation you need to provide or if you need help seeking appropriate evaluation.

  •

What if I had an IEP or 504 Plan in high school?

That information can be very helpful to us in understanding your needs. College accommodations are often different, but we’ll work together to determine what is most appropriate in the university setting.

  •

Do I have to tell my professors about my disability?

No. Your disability information stays private. You decide when and if you share more. We keep your diagnosis and medical information confidential.

  •

How do my professors learn about my accommodations?

Each semester, your professors receive an email outlining your academic accommodations. We encourage you to meet early in the semester to discuss how you will use your accommodations in each course. If you want to opt out of notifying your professors, email us at sas@udmercy.edu.

  •

Will my accommodations apply to every class?

Most do, but some accommodations may look different depending on the course. That’s why we use a case-by-case approach to make sure your access needs are met in each setting.

  •

Can I change or update my accommodations?

Yes. If your needs change, reach out to us. We can reevaluate and modify your accommodations throughout your program.

  •

What if I need accommodations for housing but not academics?

We coordinate housing and meal plan accommodations with Residence Life. You can request non-academic accommodations using the Request for Accommodations form.

  •

Can I use accommodations for online classes?

Yes. Accommodations apply in person and online. We'll help make sure your access needs are met in all learning environments.

  •

Are services only for students with visible disabilities?

Not at all. Many students have invisible disabilities like ADHD, mental health conditions, chronic illnesses or learning differences. If you need support, you’re welcome here.

  •

What if I have already started the semester? Is it too late to get help?

It’s never too late to ask. The sooner you reach out, the sooner we can work together. Accommodations are not retroactive, but you can work with us to put accommodations in place for the future any time during the school year.

  •

I’m feeling overwhelmed. Can someone walk me through the process?

Yes. You don’t have to figure this out alone. Our team is here to help.
