Biography

I have always been interested in science, but I think I have been enamored with learning and education for longer. Often, in the beginning, we are drawn to school because it's all we know for 12+ years. From a very young age, school lit a fire in me to hone my learning skills. Well, that and a first-run showing of the movie, “Back to the Future.” I can vividly recall exiting the theater in July 1985 and thinking, “How do you learn more about science?” No joke. I wanted to go home that night and build my own time machine. Fast forward thirty years and I am now a professor, or by some, a professional student. I love to motivate students to learn and I love to coach them in their learning. I am fascinated by the generation and storage of human scientific knowledge and by the simplicity of basic research, especially in the area of organic chemistry.
