UDM launches Occupational Therapy Program with Master’s and Doctoral pathways
University of Detroit Mercy will host online information sessions for people interested in the University’s new Occupational Therapy program, set to launch in May 2027.
The graduate-level program offers master’s and doctoral paths; practicing therapists can earn a doctorate entirely online, under the new program.
The program, housed in College of Health Professions, offers a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT), an entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) and a post-professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy (ppOTD). Unlike other OT programs, students pursuing entry-level occupational therapy education can explore both the MSOT and OTD pathways within the same program and decide which degree to pursue after they begin their studies.
The 60-credit MSOT is completed in five semesters and the 90-credit OTD in eight semesters, both in a hybrid format that combines coursework with hands-on labs, practice immersions and fieldwork. The 31-credit ppOTD is delivered fully online over two years of part-time study. The MSOT and OTD programs have applied for accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education.
“This program bridges classroom learning with real-world experience, preparing graduates to lead with compassion, confidence, and purpose,” said Amy Lamb, chair of Occupational Therapy.
Detroit Mercy will host online information sessions the following dates and times:
- Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 12:15 p.m.
- Thursday, Oct. 29 at 5 p.m.
