Preferred name policy

If you would prefer to use a name other than your legal first name, you may designate a preferred first name, which will populate in class rosters, on Blackboard, and in other places where your name appears at the University.

To designate a preferred first name, log in to my.udmercy.edu, then click on Personal Profile.  Select Personal Information, then click the Edit button in the upper right corner to add your name in the Preferred First Name field.  You may also designate your pronouns and gender identification in the same section.

To change your first name in your University email, write to its@udmercy.edu with the subject line “Preferred First Name.”

To change your name on transcripts and diplomas, a legal name change is required.  Contact the Office of the Registrar to initiate a name change on these documents.
