Grants Review Team

The Grants Review Team (GRT) was created to connect non-tenured faculty with colleague mentors willing to advise and assist them in the grant writing process.

All faculty mentors on the GRT have an established record of success in obtaining external grant funding.  The faculty mentors have rich experiences with research and other sponsored programs and can offer valuable advice and guidance.

Mentoring can take several different forms:

  • individual consultations prior to beginning work on a major grant proposal,
  • questions about specific sections of the proposal,
  • critiques of one-page overviews, or
  • critiques of complete  proposals.

Roles and Responsibilities

Faculty Mentors:

  • Will respond to requests in a timely manner, honoring the deadlines noted below.
  • Will indicate whether there is a preferred method of communication, e.g. email, telephone, face-to-face meetings.
  • Will indicate if they are unable to assist due to other obligations, and, if appropriate, refer the mentee to another faculty mentor.
  • Will provide feedback in a professional and respectful manner.

Faculty Seeking Assistance: 

  • Will specifically outline their request, e.g. I am seeking your advice about the one page summary.
  • Will honor the following deadlines when requesting assistance:
    • Review and critique of a one-page summary/overview – one-week turnaround time
    • Review and critique of a full proposal – three-week turnaround time
  • Will communicate professionally and respectfully when making requests or responding to feedback.
