Multifaith

University Ministry’s mission is to form students through experiences of community, prayer, action and reflection. While much of our programming is rooted in the Catholic, Ignatian, and Mercy traditions, University Ministry encourages students to grow in their own religious and faith traditions during their years at Detroit Mercy.

University Ministry has a variety of interfaith and multifaith programming that students are invited to participate in. Most events are collaborations with various organizations on campus. To keep up to date on these programs, follow us on Instagram, or stop by the office on the ground floor of the Student Union.

“One fundamental human right must not be forgotten in the journey towards fraternity and peace. It is religious freedom for believers of all religions.” – Pope Francis

Getting Connected

University Ministry works and collaborates with a variety of interfaith organizations on and off campus. Connect with the Muslim Student Association, Hillel, CRU, and more. If you are looking to get connected with a faith organization on campus, but are not sure who to reach out to, we are here to help!

Faith in the D

Detroit is filled with a variety of religious and faith backgrounds. Each year, University Ministry partners with a local organization to let students experience different religious traditions, participate in inter-religious dialogue, and try a variety of foods, snacks, and cultural experiences. This interfaith event is inspired by Pope Francis’s encyclical Fratelli Tutti, which invites us to care and love our fellow brothers and sisters, and recognizes there is truth in all religions. This interfaith event allows participants to learn and grow with each other, and experience Detroit in a new way.

Ecumenical Service

Focusing on the unity of all Christian traditions, University Ministry hosts an Ecumenical Worship Service at the McNichols Campus during the winter semester. The service is celebrated by a local pastor in the Detroit Area. Music is led by a praise and worship band, and select students are invited to give testimonials of the way faith has influenced their lives. Attendees are invited to stay and enjoy food afterwards, celebrating times of community together.

For more information, please contact Anna Lawler at lawleran@udmercy.edu or 313-993-1560.

Interfaith Dinner

University Ministry’s interfaith dinner is a time for people of all faith backgrounds to come together for discussion and connection. The dinner, which will be held in November, is a time to discuss the connections of our various faith backgrounds, and enjoy community and a great meal.
