Hi! My name is Ann Niebrzydowski and I am a volunteer in the Institute for Leadership and Service office. I am excited to be a part of the UDM Service-Learning team, working with students, professors, and non-profit agencies in the community.
Community service has always been a big part of my life – in fact, I often refer to my profession as Mom/Professional Volunteer. Since “retiring” from my paying job as a systems analyst at Chevrolet to become a stay-at-home mom, my two main focuses were my family and my volunteer work. Now that our three children are grown and on their own, I have more time to focus on the latter.
To help me become a better servant, I decided to join the Ignatian Volunteers at Manresa. We are a group of volunteers who are committed to spiritual growth through service, prayer and reflection. All members have committed to volunteer at an agency that serves the poor. We also meet once a month to pray together, reflect on our volunteer work and study Ignatian Spirituality. In a way, we are like students in Service-Learning classes. We are working in the community, reflecting on our experiences and learning in the process.
My hope is that all of you will find service-learning as rewarding as I have!
