ajcuAJCU article explores how UDM leadership stays focused on mission

In an article published by the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU), two UDM trustees describe the commitment by UDM leadership to maintain focus on the University’s Jesuit and Mercy mission. John Staudenmaier, S.J., assistant to the president for Mission and Identity at UDM, and John D. Lewis ’74, managing director of Donnelly Penman & Partners and chair of the UDM Board of Trustees, were

interviewed about the steps UDM is taking to make sure the institution continues to be guided with a strong understanding of the mission shared by our religious sponsors, the Society of Jesus and the Sisters of Mercy.

As part of their orientation to the UDM Board of Trustees, new members are required to attend a presentation by Fr. Staudenmaier and a representative of the Sisters of Mercy on the history of the Jesuits and Mercy Sisters and their impact on U.S. higher education.

In the article, Fr. Staudenmaier stated, “John [Lewis] has said that to be a trustee at this institution, your time has changed you and your behavior: how you think about equity, morality, accountability, etc. Your worldview has changed so that you can say one of the great moments of your life was to be a trustee at UDM.”
