FYE Common Read

Common Read  2016

Welcome to Detroit Mercy!

Detroit Mercy's First Year Experience (FYE) Common Read is designed to introduce you as a first year student to the academic and intellectual culture of Detroit Mercy through a common reading experience.

All first year students are expected to the read the book over the summer and participate in discussions during fall orientation Prologues, Transitions, and Viewpoints (PTV) and assignments in your fall English courses for ENL1300 and ENL 1310.

The reading selection for Fall 2016 is Callings: The Purpose and Passion of Work by StoryCorps founder Dave Isay.  StoryCorps, often broadcast on NPR, is a collection of oral history interviews (storycorps.org).  Callings is a collection of those interviews focused on vocation, occupation, and work.

Enjoy the summer and I look forward to meeting you in the fall.
