The First-Year Experience program at University of Detroit Mercy is designed to provide support and encouragement for you as a new student and help ensure that you succeed personally and academically. FYE acknowledges that the first year in college is a major life step during which students might face challenges in adjusting to a new place, managing time and workload, starting new relationships, clarifying values, establishing autonomy, and addressing a host of other developmental issues.
FYE is coordinated through the Dean of Students Office, in cooperation with Academic Affairs, the Student Life Office, the Office of Residence Life and various academic programs. Our comprehensive approach to your first-year experience begins with SOAR and Fall Orientation, which includes the Common Read; integrates both your curricular and co-curricular experiences.
The program includes the following components:
Fall Orientation
Prologues, Transitions, and Viewpoints (PTV) is the University of Detroit Mercy's introduction to college life. The four-day event, which takes place immediately before classes begin on September 8th, is designed to acquaint new students with campus organizations, activities, facilities, faculty, staff, and new classmates.
