Visit the First Year Convocation UDMcast to hear the entertaining and motivational 2011 keynote speech, "Signs of Leadership," presented by Associate Professor of Education Donald DiPaolo.
The First Year Convocation is held in Gesu Catholic Church, to welcome new students to the University Community. The students are led in a processional by a bagpiper, similar to Commencement, and greeted with the sound of "Alma Mater" played by the UDM Pep Band. University Ministry presides over a brief interfaith prayer service which includes the UDM Gospel Choir. Students are introduced to key administrators of the University, including the dean of each College and School. After the keynote address and recessional to Calihan Hall, students and administrators mingle and enjoy a delicious lunch at patio tables under white tents with festive music. The event marks a positive start for students as they begin their first semester at the University.
