First Year Convocation

Friday, August 22, 2014
10 - 11:30 a.m.
Calihan Hall

The First Year Convocation (FYC) is held in Calihan Hall to welcome new students to the University Community. New UDM students are led in a processional by a bagpiper, similar to Commencement, and greeted with the sound of "Alma Mater" played by the UDM Pep Band. Students are introduced to key administrators of the University, including the dean of each College and School. The event will also feature a keynote talk.

For 2014, UDM is proud to host Gregory Boyle, S.J., founder of Homeboy Industries and author of Tattoos on the Heart, as the FYC keynote speaker.  Find out more about Fr. Boyle.

After the keynote address and recessional, students and administrators mingle and enjoy a delicious lunch at patio tables under white tents with festive music. The event marks a positive start for students as they begin their first semester at the University.
