Unauthorized Driving Away of Automobile

Date: January 14, 2013

Location: On Campus / McNichols - Parking Lot D

McNichols Campus– The University of Detroit Mercy Public Safety Department is investigating an unauthorized driving away of an automobile that occurred at the McNichols Campus between 10:30PM on January 13, 2013, and 5:30PM on January 14, 2013.    

The Department of Public Safety has no suspects at this time but the investigation is continuing. 

DPS will continue to provide the community with security and safety information through safety notices and updates on the DPS web site.  

How you can help

Report all suspicious activity to Public Safety at (313) 993-1123 that is observed from your office or dorm window.

Be mindful of persons who appear to be loitering.

Take notice of the clothing, gender and race to help officers locate the person of concern.

Take notice of the vehicles nearby the suspicious person.

Follow DPS safety tips and when in doubt call us out to investigate further.


Safety Tips

If you see a suspect, do not approach--call Public Safety.

Always lock your vehicle doors, roll up windows and close your sun roof when leaving your car.

Place valuables in the trunk or take them with you.

Utilize the campus escort policy or walk with others if you feel uncomfortable.

Limit the use of devices that distract you while you are walking to and from your car (Ex. Text messaging, iPods).

Have your keys in hand so you are ready to open the car door immediately.

Do not prop open doors.
