Unauthorized Driving Away of Automobile

Location: On Campus / McNichols Campus

McNICHOLS CAMPUS – University of Detroit Mercy Public Safety (DPS) is investigating two parking lot related incidents that occurred on the McNichols Campus yesterday August 22nd within the same time period. 

The first incident occurred between 8:30 a.m. – 11:50 a.m. A university employee reported upon returning to her 2005 Chrysler Sebring in Lot-A she discovered her radio on and damage to the steering column. The vehicle doors were left unlocked giving easy access to the interior of the vehicle.   

The second incident occurred in Lot-A and was reported to Public Safety at 6:20 p.m.  The university employee reported that he parked his 2002 Chrysler Sebring at 8:30 a.m.  Upon returning to his vehicle at 5:45 p.m. the vehicle was missing. Further investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen from campus approximately 11:17 a.m.

Public Safety is asking the community to be vigilant of your surroundings and others who appear to be waiting in parking areas without a purpose.  Anyone witnessing or having information about these reports are asked to contact UDM Public Safety at (313) 993-1123 and speak with the platoon supervisor.
