Sisters of Mercy of the Americas applauds the 2010 passage of Health Care Reform Legislation
March 21, 2010The leadership team of the Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas commends the U.S. House of Representatives for passing this much needed health care reform legislation which provides 32 million Americans with access to affordable healthcare coverage. For 160+ years in this country, the Sisters of Mercy have been providing health care to people from all walks of life. Our mission is to provide relief from suffering and care of life at all its stages, especially for those who are poor. We believe that health care is a human right. This legislation brings us closer to ensuring that everyone gets the health care they need in this country.
The leadership team of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas is well aware that the process of the health care legislation moving to its final passage has been one fraught with divisiveness and conflict among people of good will. It is our greatest hope and prayer that the fabric of the common good be repaired as we move forward as one nation and community of faith. We will continue to serve and advocate according to the call of the Gospel and mission of our foundress Catherine McAuley.
