Friday February 25

3 - 7p.m. -- Fountain Lounge
7 p.m. & ff. Jesuit Community
  • 3 p.m. -- Check in Renaissance Center Marriott
    Store luggage before 3p.m.
  • 3 p.m. -- Shuttle leaves hotel for Art Museum and other drive-by Detroit sites; shuttle will arrive on campus no later than 5:15.
  • 3 p.m. -- Shuttles leave hotel for UDM every half hour (early registration)
  • 5 p.m. -- Social hour
  • 5:30 p.m. -- Strolling dinner "Tastes of Detroit"
  • 6 p.m. -- John Staudenmaier, sj "An Ignatian method of city dwelling for faculty members and for their universities"
    Prayer begins by asking where am I? Called to stay or called to move? In either case, the where am I origin of prayer calls for deepening intimacy (fluency) with where I am. Imagine our universities as praying beings and we could ask the same questions collectively. Some thoughts about this applied to UDM.
  • 7 p.m. -- Dessert reception in the Jesuit Residence
  • 8 p.m. -- Begin shuttles back to hotel (every 15 minutes or so)

Saturday February 26

    2. What is a great challenge for your university from its neighborhood?
    3. What challenges me as an individual @ our university's neighborhood?
    4. What keeps me here?

  • 9:45 a.m. -- Keynote: Karla Henderson
    {Preliminary notes: Here's what I do, here's my take on the vacant land use question in Detroit; how, from where I work, do I see the way institutions operate in the city; how in particular do I see universities in our city.}
  • 10:45 a.m. -- Table talk about K Henderson's talk & the earlier table talk

Sunday February 27

  • 7:30 - 8:10 a.m. -- Shuttles to campus (Continental breakfast - Warren Loranger Exhibition Space)
  • 8:45 a.m. -- Keynote: Dan Pitera two models to negotiate university & surrounding neighborhoods
  • 9:30 a.m. -- Q&A that morphs into an open forum to raise questions which have emerged over the weekend about our universities in their cities.
  • 10:35 a.m. -- wrap up and thanks (evaluation form)
  • 11 a.m. -- shuttles to the airport (earlier if necessary)
