In partnership with Loyola High School in Los Angeles, the Ignatian Solidarity Network (ISN) is sponsoring an Ignatian Family Teach-In on Immigration from March 7th-9th, 2008. The Teach-In will be a three day conference for students, staff, and families affiliated with Jesuit universities, high schools, parishes, and the broader Ignatian family, convened to:
- Provide education and analysis of issues surrounding the current immigration debate
- Examine successful community organizing campaigns on immigration as case studies for understanding how communities come together effectively to create change
- Empower participants with the skills and information to lead discussions on the current immigration system
- Reflect on the experiences of the immigrant and migrant community in light of Catholic Social Teaching
- Strengthen the Ignatian family's advocacy efforts calling for comprehensive immigration reform
ISN sees this Teach-In as a concrete and direct way to animate and advance the collective work of the Ignatian family to stand in solidarity with our migrant brothers and sisters. The Teach-In will explore immigration through the lens of human dignity and personal experience, with the aim of empowering leaders to return to their communities with the skills, education, and experience needed to engage others in reflection and discussion on the current immigration debate. Speakers will be invited to address immigration through the lens of personal experience, theological reflection, community organizing, public policy, and advocacy strategies.
