Students Spend Breaks Helping Others
UDM's Student Service trips allow students to live the charisms of the Jesuits and Sisters of Mercy by offering "compassionate service for those most in need" and developing "men and women for others." During the 2012-2013 school year, 70 students and colleagues traveled to such locations as New Orleans, Tuscaloosa, AL, Detroit, Chicago, Sacramento, Salem, WV and New Jersey to help those in need: building and rebuilding, dealing with immigration issues, hunger and homelessness, urban and rural poverty, and environmental sustainability.
The Campus Kitchen Project is an emerging leader in community service for students and resourceful anti-hunger programs for communities around the country. UDM is the first Campus Kitchen in the State of Michigan. Approximately 300 students participate in the program to provide 70 meals weekly to community members in their homes and to women and children in an area shelter.
