Clinics Provide Primary Care Services
UDM’s McAuley Health Center clinics on both the east side and northwest side of Detroit provided primary care and community outreach services to 2,000 underserved individuals, resulting in approximately 3,000 patient visits in 2015.
Nursing students host health fair
A group of seven senior nursing students placed at East English Village Preparatory Academy in Detroit held a Fitness Fair in March 2015 for students who attend the school. Approximately 500 students participated in the interactive educational sessions. The fair emphasized health nutrition and fitness based on an assessment of the students’ health status in collaboration with the St. John School-based Health Clinic.
Nurse Anesthesia students volunteer overseas
Nurse Anesthesia students were recognized for their selfless voluntary missions overseas during winter 2015. Bianca Fields cared for patients in Guatemala, while four other students traveled to the Philippines: Jeff Macuja, Zack Ismail, Elizabeth Smith and Satoya Troncoso. The overseas missions are not only a learning experience for UDM Nurse Anesthesia students but also a great way to give back to those less fortunate. Almost half of the last three graduating Nurse Anesthesia classes have traveled overseas in their senior years.
