Nursing Clinic


The McAuley Health Center, which is staffed by Nursing faculty and assisted by graduate and undergraduate nursing students, serves nearly 2,800 underserved and uninsured community members on Detroit's eastside.

Volunteer Outreach


Faculty, students and alumni have continued to provide service and volunteerism to community-based organizations throughout the city, inclusive of health screening and physical exams, and outreach activities to underserved population. In addition, faculty and administrators perform research this past year to address areas related to the community, underserved populations, access to care and critical health indicators. Research areas included obesity, financial outcomes & care and women's health issues.

Breast Cancer Education for Arab-American Women

Through the project, "Hereditary Breast Cancer: Increasing Awareness and Reducing barriers of Access in the Low income Arab-American Community," CHP Dean Suzanne Mellon is helping Arab-American women in the metro Detroit area receive the education they need about hereditary breast cancer. Dean Mellon and Ahmad Hammad from the Arab Community Center for Economic andSocial Services have taken the lead to increase awareness of breast cancer risk and inform the public about cancer genetic counceling services for at-risk individuals in the Arab-American community in southeastern Michigan.
