The Institute for Leadership and Service
The Institute's Mission
University of Detroit Mercy's Institute for Leadership and Service provides opportunities for all members of the UDM community to engage in social change for the common good. The Institute upholds the ideals of our founders who believe in the promotion of justice and compassionate service to those in need as we are transforming lives to lead and serve.
Building the capacity of students to lead and serve in their communities
On April 16 2012, the Institute for Leadership and Service received the “Outstanding Community Service Award" from the Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan in recognition of the great contributions that UDM students have made in support of their programs. The list of contributions included help with computer programing, tutoring, assistance at various holiday parties, and coaching sports. Carrie Young from Boys and Girls Club presented the award. Chase Zebari and Jill Johnson represented UDM students and Catherine Corrigan represented service-learning faculty in receiving the award.
UDM highlights leadership in our education of the student, service learning, and in student life. Student leaders help us continue the work of Catherine McAuley and Ignatius of Loyola in compassionate care of the poor and marginalized by seeing, feeling, helping, and fostering lasting change.
There are a number of ways you can learn and experience leadership at UDM. You'll be helping yourself and your community in the context of our mission, vision and religious sponsors.
