Sexual consent lecture: Harry Brod
January 30, 2014
Time: 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Location: Ford Life Sciences Building, room 113
Harry Brod, professor of Philosophy & World Religions at University of Northern Iowa, will visit UDM to give his lecture, "Asking for it: The ethics and erotics of sexual consent." Brod has worked with universities across the country on developing effective gender violence prevention policies and promoting a culture of sexual respect.
Brod's talk and the Q&A that will follow are open to the entire campus community, with a special focus on students. Brod "offers a unique take on the problem of sexual assault, one that complicates the issue even as it clarifies the bottom-line principle that consent must always be explicitly granted, never simply assumed."
For a short preview of the talk, see the Media Education Foundation site.
This presentation one of a series of events on the topic of sexual consent that UDM will host for students, faculty, administration and staff, Jan. 30 through Feb. 1. The series is co-sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs, the Women's and Gender Studies Program, the Office of Student Life, the Dean of Students Office, the Philosophy Department, the College of Health Professions, the College of Liberal Arts & Education, the Athletics Program, the Commission for Women in the University, and the Psi Chi Honors Society.
