“Behold, I make all things new!” Rev. 21:5
Our celebration this year focuses on one particular aspect of the UDM Mission: our education “in an urban context.” Lately there’s been a lot of buzz about the re-visioning, re-design, re-birth and renewal of Detroit. Our guest speaker, Faye Nelson, President & CEO of the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy, has been very involved in the renewal of the city, and can help our UDM community appreciate more deeply our call to use our resources to address the needs of Detroit, and to participate in its redesign and renewal.
Tasked with public access development of the Detroit Riverfront in 2003, Nelson (a native Detroiter) is overseeing the massive restoration and permanent stewardship of the Riverfront, with over three miles of the project completed to date, towards an ultimate goal of 5 ½ miles of public space along the Detroit River which includes a RiverWalk, plazas, pavilions and green space.
Nelson is a graduate of Mercy College and the University of Detroit School of Law, and currently serves on the UDM Board of Trustees.
Come be renewed and refreshed as we start a new academic year. Enjoy some spiritual inspiration as we recommit ourselves to living the UDM Mission in the city of Detroit.
