SOAR: Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration
What is SOAR?
Phase I of the UDM freshman orientation program is SOAR: Student Orientation, Advising, and Registration. The two-day, overnight session allows freshmen to become familiar with life at UDM by experiencing on-campus housing, touring university facilities, and registering for first semester classes with an academic advisor.
When is SOAR?
SOAR is offered five times throughout the spring and summer:
|June 2/3||June 9/10||June 16/17||July 7/8||July 14/15|
During SOAR you will:
Take Placement Exams
Placement exams in english, math, chemistry (for select programs), foreign languages, and computer skills will be given. Results from placement exams will help your advisor recommend the appropriate level of courses. For information on how you can prepare for your exams, check out our placement exam guide.
Meet your Academic Advisor
During SOAR, you’ll have the chance to meet with an academic advisor, who will help you plan your undergraduate course work, leading to a degree in your chosen field.
Register for the Fall Semester
Your academic advisor will assist you in registering for fall semester courses and you will leave with your official schedule.
