Common Read

Don’t forget about the Common Read selection, Tattoos on the Heart, by Gregory Boyle. During PTV you will participate in discussions about the book.

Service Project

As a part of the program, students will spend one morning doing a service project at a social service agency that is doing great things in Detroit. This work often involves gardening or clean-up work; students need to wear clothes that can get dirty. Most importantly, students may not wear open-toed shoes or tank-tops. We suggest students wear gym shoes and shirts with sleeves.

Horizon Retreat

Horizons is a three day, two night experience away from the distractions and busy-ness of everyday life.

Students will be allowed to move into their residence halls before leaving for the retreat on Sunday, August 17. We will return to campus in time for the start of first-year student orientation on August 19. Horizons itself will take place at an off-campus retreat center. The format of the retreat involves listening, reflecting, small and large group discussions, free time and fellowship building. For more information and to register, please visit the Horizons page
