Each year, the University of Detroit Mercy welcomes approximately 600 new and returning international students from more than 40 different countries. We believe our international students add a valuable dimension of cultural diversity to university life. And we believe, in turn, that the quality education we offer enriches the lives of our students from foreign lands.
The University of Detroit Mercy is an established university with a long and proud history and an exciting future. For the past 130 years, we have been providing quality education in a supportive environment that reflects the Catholic values of our Jesuit and Mercy traditions. Located in the industrial heartland of the United States, UDM is a comprehensive university that offers a wide range of educational programs and extensive opportunities for employment after graduation. We invite you explore our web site to learn more about the many benefits available to you including:
- Our Outstanding Cooperative Education Program: After two years as an undergraduate or two semesters as a graduate student, you can work off campus in your field of study, earning academic credit, valuable work experience, and a significant income.
- No TOEFL: Because we administer our own English proficiency test after you arrive, you do not need to take the TOEFL to be admitted to the University of Detroit Mercy. We provide any English instruction you require and students in intermediate and advanced English classes take classes in their major field of study as well as ESL.
- Professors who truly see you as an individual: "My professors are my friends," is the way one student expressed it. UDM professors have a well-earned reputation for caring deeply about their students' welfare. They consider you as a person as well as a student. You will meet people here whom you will remember fondly for the rest of your life.
- A dynamic setting in one of the world's great metropolitan areas: The University of Detroit Mercy is located on the northwest side of Detroit. The metro area has a population of over 4 million people. No matter what your interests, you can expect to be able to follow them in this large and varied area.
