The below list of Freshman Scholarships and Grants offered by University of Detroit Mercy are for full-time undergraduate enrolling at the McNichols Campus of UDM.
Academic Scholarships - Freshmen Fall 2015
Insignis, Spiritus, Dean’s, and Jesuit/Mercy Scholarships - $10,000 - $21,000/year Early application deadline - November 1, 2014. Details >>
These merit-based scholarships are awarded to students based on information provided during the application process including grade point average, ACT/SAT scores as well as leadership, service, and other extracurricular activities.
Note: To become eligible for an academic scholarship, students need to apply for admission online by our early application deadline of November 1, 2014.
Commerce Scholarship - $25,000/year Details >>
- Minimum 30 ACT or 1340 SAT and 3.5 GPA
- Business Majors
- A resume
- On-campus interview strongly recommended
The Commerce Scholarship is a renewable award of $25,000 for freshmen business majors having a minimum composite score of 30 on the ACT (or 1340 on the SAT), a minimum grade-point average of 3.5, and evidence of significant community involvement or leadership. A resume is required and an on-campus interview is strongly recommended.

- Dependent children or grandchildren of a graduate of UDM, Mercy College of Detroit, or University of Detroit.
Dependent undergraduate students who have a parent(s) who graduated from UDM, University of Detroit, or Mercy College of Detroit are eligible to receive an Alumni Grant. This grant is available for up to 4 years (five years for qualified bachelor's and master's degree programs) of full-time undergraduate tuition.
America’s Marketing High School (AMHS) Scholarship - $1,500/year Details >>
Seniors in high school who were active participants in America’s Marketing High School
- Regularly accepted for admission
- Business, Marketing/Advertising, Entrepreneurship, or other business related programs
- An America’s Marketing High School teacher recommendation by March 1
UDM is offering competitive scholarships to support and advance the career aspirations of business students in the fields of marketing/advertising, entrepreneurship, and other like professions.
Students must be seniors in high school. We encourage recommendations for students interested in majoring in business, marketing/advertising, entrepreneurship, or other business professions. Students must be regularly accepted for admission and have an America’s Marketing High School teacher submit a completed AMHS Scholarship Recommendation Form by March 1.
Founders High School Grant - $1,000/year Details >>
- Graduates of either a Jesuit or Mercy High School in the U.S.
To recognize the work of our founding sponsors, The Society of Jesus and the Sisters of Mercy, entering freshmen who have graduated from a Jesuit or Mercy High School will receive this grant. Eligible students need to have completed their last two years of high school at either a Jesuit or Mercy High School in the U.S.
MPLCC Scholarship – Full Tuition/year Details >>
- Regularly accepted for admission to UDM by May 1
- Residents of the MPLCC area (boundaries of West McNichols on the north, and Lodge Freeway to the south, with Livernois on the west and Log Cabin and Idaho Streets on the east)
- Interview by MPLCC Scholarship Committee
The McNichols Puritan Lodge Community Counsel (MPLCC) scholarship was created in 1984 as part of an agreement between the MPLCC and University of Detroit Mercy to demonstrate a positive and supportive relationship between the University and its neighbors.
This scholarship is a full-time, continuous undergraduate scholarship and is awarded to up to two qualified residents of the MPLCC area. Full tuition to include a combination of the MPLCC Scholarship and other federal, state and private grants and scholarships. A full scholarship covers the cost of tuition at UDM for up to four years. Summer semesters, room & board, and books are not included.
Interested students need to be a resident of the MPLCC area which includes the boundaries of West McNichols on the north, and Lodge Freeway to the south, with Livernois on the west and Log Cabin and Idaho Streets on the east. Students need to apply for admission and have all required application documents to the Office of Admissions by May 1. Once accepted, the MPLCC Scholarship Committee will contact eligible applicants for an interview. Based on the interview, the committee will make its selection. Notification will be sent to students during July.
Pastors’ Grant - $500/freshman year only Details >>
- Active members of a Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of Detroit
- Submit letter of recommendation from the pastor on parish stationary
This grant is for full-time freshman students who are active members of a Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of Detroit. Students must submit a letter of recommendation from the pastor on parish stationary.
Sibling Grant - $1,000/year Details >>
- Siblings enrolled at UDM simultaneously in an undergraduate program
- Both siblings need to submit the Sibling Grant Form
Students who have a sibling enrolled simultaneously at UDM are eligible to receive the Sibling Grant. Both siblings must be enrolled at the same time in a full-time undergraduate program leading to a first bachelor’s degree. Both UDM students are required to submit the Sibling Grant Form each year.
Theatre Scholarship - $1,000/year Details >>
- Theatre majors
- Audition required
Full-time freshmen pursuing a major in Theatre are eligible for the Theatre Scholarship. Students must be regularly accepted to the Theatre program and be invited by the Theatre faculty to audition during the winter semester.
Visit Grant - $1,000 Details >>
High school students who make an official visit to University of Detroit Mercy between March 1 of their sophomore year and May 1 of their senior year will be awarded the $1,000 campus visit grant upon enrollment.
An official visit to the University is one arranged in partnership with the Office of Admissions, an athletic coach or other entity within the school.* For additional information contact the Office of Admissions at 800-635-5020.
*Students visiting campus as athletic recruits or through a family friend should notify the Office of Admissions. Notification can be completed by filling out the visitation form at the admissions office, or by having the coach contact admissions on the student's behalf.

UDM Grants are awarded to new transfer students for academic achievement. They are renewable for up to four years (five years for Architecture students) of full-time undergraduate tuition.

- 3.0 – 3.49 GPA: $15,000
- 3.5 – 4.00 GPA: $17,000
Alumni Grant - $1,000/year Details >>
This grant is for new dependent, undergraduate students who have a parent who is an alumnus of the University of Detroit Mercy, the University of Detroit, or Mercy College of Detroit. This grant is renewable for up to 4 years (five years for Architecture students) of full-time undergraduate tuition.
Jesuit Founders Scholarship - Full Tuition/year Details >>
The Jesuit Founders Scholarship, also a top scholarship, rewards new transfer students who have been academically successful and show promise of continued excellence. Full tuition to be met with a combination of Jesuit Founders Scholarship and other federal, state and private grants and scholarships.
Minimum requirements include a 3.5 cumulative GPA, 24+ transferable credits, a scholarship essay, 2 letters of recommendation, and full-time enrollment. Unfortunately students who already hold a bachelor’s degree are not eligible.
Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Scholarship - Full Tuition/year Details >>
The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is one of the top scholarships offered. It is available to new transfer students who demonstrate exceptional academic credentials and who are also members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Full tuition to be met with a combination of PTK Scholarship and other federal, state and private grants and scholarships.
Minimum requirements include a 3.5 cumulative GPA, 24+ transferable credits, a scholarship essay, 2 letters of recommendation, membership in PTK, and full-time enrollment. Unfortunately students who already hold a bachelor’s degree are not eligible.

New full-time transfer students pursuing a major in theatre are eligible for the Theatre Scholarship. This scholarship is available for up to 4 years of full-time undergraduate tuition.
