Learn about the organizers

Theatre of DelphiFor over 25 years, University of Detroit Mercy theatre professor Dr. Arthur Beer took students for a summer in Greece to learn the classic plays, visit the ancient sites, and to put on a production.  They also immersed themselves in Greek culture—and the Aegean Sea.  This journey, designed for alumni and open to all, will be a little more comfortable and a lot less work.  The Athens Center will provide guides and comfortable motor coach to Tolo, Epidaurus, Mycenae, Kyparissia, Olympia, Megalopolis, Messene, Pylos, Mystras, and Delphi.  Accommodations will be double occupancy in comfortable hotels.  The group leaders are Professor Emeritus Arthur J. Beer Ph. D. and Department Chair Greg Grobis M.F.A.

Art BeerDr. Beer has acted in more than 220 plays, and directed a like number, and is regularly seen in professional productions in the metropolitan Detroit area. He has written 20 original plays and adapted 16 classic plays, all of which have been produced. He has won the Hopwood and Gesu awards in playwriting, as well as authoring the directing text “Classic Plays for Contemporary Audiences” and the Humanities Workbook, “Meeting Art.”

Greg GrobisDepartment Chair Grobis is the managing director of the Detroit Mercy Theatre Company and is a member of the McNichols Faculty Assembly. He has managed over 125 theatre productions at Detroit Mercy and other professional theatres throughout the United States.  Grobis serves on the board of directors of Detroit Children’s Theatre.
