Schedule for Final Exam Week

Final Exams Tuesday, December 10 through Saturday, December 14

The University follows a full 15-week academic calendar for Terms I and II. During the fifteenth, or final week of the term, every class is expected to meet once for a one-hour and fifty-minute (1 hr., 50 min.) period, whether or not a final examination is given. If no examination is planned, the time is to be used for normal instructional purposes.

Each class will meet in the room assigned for the previous 14 weeks, but the time will be different. (These changes are necessary to protect students, as much as possible, from having three examinations on one day or even from having back-to-back examinations.)

For classes scheduled from 8 a.m. through 3 p.m., Monday through Friday:

For courses having both lecture and recitation periods, the time of the final class meeting is determined from the day and time for the first lecture period of the week. For courses having recitation periods only, the final class meeting is determined from the day and time of the first recitation period.

To determine the day and time for the final meeting of any class, note the day and hour of the first lecture or the first recitation period.

From Section I "Final Class Meeting Times by Code Letters," obtain the final class meeting code letter which has been chosen for the class involved. Then consult Section II "Actual Dates and Times of the Final Class Meeting."

EXAMPLE: PHL 1000 SEC. 02 10:00 a.m. MWF

From the basic Schedule, the first meeting in the week is Monday, 10 a.m.
From Section I final class code letter is C
From Section II, final class meeting will be Saturday, December 14, from 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.

Instructors should inform all members of their classes of the time and place of the final class meeting as soon as possible.

SPECIAL NOTES:

  1. If a student has been assigned three examinations during the same day of the final week of the term, he/she may ask his/her academic dean for reassignment of an exam. Conflicts involving two scheduled class meetings may also be referred to his/her academic dean for resolution.
  2. Class meeting times during the final week of the term have been determined by the Academic Leadership Team. No allowance is made and no approval is given by the Academic Leadership Team for final examinations prior to the final week. Furthermore, no regular examinations or quizzes are to be assigned during the week prior to the final week.
  3. Instructors wishing time/room changes for the final examinations must obtain approval from the dean of their college/school.
