HUMAN SERVICES MAJOR (BACHELOR OF SCIENCE)
The Human Services major prepares undergraduate students to assume effective leadership roles in not-for-profit agencies supporting or serving people and communities who are experiencing need. Human Services is a broadly defined field, uniquely approaching the objective of meeting human needs through an interdisciplinary knowledge base.
The Human Services major is an interdisciplinary major consisting of courses from four core areas: human services, social work, criminal justice, and psychology. The major draws upon the theories and research in each of these areas and provides students with a broad foundation in the behavioral sciences.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

To prepare student in human services concepts and human service delivery;

To prepare students in the interdisciplinary areas affecting human services, i.e., psychology, sociology, social work, and criminal justice;

To prepare students in the historical roots and development of the human services profession;

To prepare students with knowledge regarding human services organizations, networks, and systems;

To prepare students regarding the socio-political, cultural, and international factors that affect human services and human services delivery;

To prepare students on the theories of management as they relate to human services and not-for-profit institutions;

To prepare students on the theories on leadership in the human services;

To introduce students to career opportunities in the human services.
