Description
The Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics entails the academic study of finance with a strong foundation in the theory and application of economic principles. Within the context of a liberal arts education, the program provides a deeper knowledge of history, institutions and world economy, and prepares the student to think critically about moral and ethical issues that occur in the realm of finance and economics.
The program curriculum focuses on:
-
the role of the market's pricing system in the functioning of the economy,
-
fiscal and monetary policies,
-
basic economic models and theories, and
-
application of basic moral and ethical principles in the analysis of economic systems and issues.
In addition to the UDM Core Curriculum requirement, the program consists of 33 credit hours in Economics with the remaining BA credit hours in other academic disciplines. A number of the requirements and elective Economics courses in the program are approved for Teacher's Certification by the State Board of Education.
The credit hours earned for the completion of the B.A. in Economics may not be counted toward the completion of the B.A. in Financial Economics.
UDM's Economics courses maintain long-standing approval by the AACSB International: The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business—the premiere accrediting agency for BA, MA, MBA, and doctoral programs in business.

The Economics major degree prepares the student for a career in industry, financial and non-profit institutions, or in various levels of government.
