DHY 8080 Oral Health Assessment

The purpose of this course is to introduce patient assessment skills utilized in the Dental Hygiene Process of Care. Concepts and techniques of assessment will be introduced and practiced in the classroom and/or clinical setting with fellow students as patients. Assessment skills introduced include the following: Medicolegal Documentation, Medical/Dental History, Common Medical Conditions and Medications, Accessing and Documenting Drug Information, Vital Signs, Communication for Assessment, Head and Neck Examination and Lesion Description, Dental and Periodontal Assessment. This course will prepare the student for the assessment portion of patient care in the clinical courses.
