Description
The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers programs that blend theory and practice in an innovative way, preparing students for career options in academic, corporate, health, and government areas. Classes are deliberately structured to enable students who pursue a major in Mathematics or Computer Science to learn in concert with Engineering and Science majors. In this setting, the student’s appreciation of the inherent power and cohesiveness of mathematics is enhanced by the highlighted role that mathematics plays in all fields.
Degree Requirements
Mathematics Major - Bachelor of Arts with Elementary Certification
Students preparing to teach mathematics in the elementary school can either pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics degree (please visit the Mathematics-BA catalog page), or they can pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a teaching major in mathematics. In either case, a 20 credit hour teaching minor must also be completed, as well as the professional education sequence of courses and the University Core Curriculum.
