DS 820 Pain and Anxiety Control

The lecture and laboratory practicum is designed to provide students with the basic and current concepts of local anesthetics and pain control and to provide for the safe and effective administration of local anesthetics. Included is the rationale for pain control, psychological considerations, armamentarium, essential anatomy, neurophysiology and pharmacology of anesthetic agents. There will be detailed laboratory instruction in local anesthetic techniques and an introduction to the use and administration of nitrous oxide analgesia as a means of anxiety control.
