Covers the history of street gangs and other deviant social groups, including cults and drug cartels, in a global context but with primary focus on the U.S. Students will be introduced to gang-related issues such as: the influence of the media, peers, socioeconomic status, drugs and drug dealing, neighborhood affiliation, public-housing, and schools on street gang formation, norms, and migration patterns.
