Applied Data Analytics (Graduate Certificate)

Description

This 15 credit-hour (five-course) graduate certificate is designed to provide hands-on training in the area of applied data analytics. Coursework focuses on development of knowledge and skills in critical reasoning, measurement development and evaluation, data management, data analytic software utilization, multivariate data analysis and modeling, and data mining techniques.

The curriculum explores current topics in data analytics, such as quantitative methods, business and financial statistics, emerging ideas and technologies, big data, business forecasting and data mining. The skill set learned will allow students to sift through mountains of data to extract simple relationships and make valuable inferences. Students will be able to apply their skills to make data-informed decisions and to identify new opportunities for the organization. Upon earning the certificate, students will be armed with various technologies that support effective business decision making in today’s increasingly competitive environment.

The Applied Data Analytics Graduate Certificate program is offered online and on campus through the Department of Economics in the College of Liberal Arts & Education. Courses from this certificate program can be applied to the Master of Science in Applied Data Analytics.

    Required Courses (9 credits)

    • DATA 5001 Science and Data (3 credits)
    • ECN 5150 Quantitative Foundations for Data Analysis (3 credits)
    • CSSE 5310 Data Mining (3 credits)

    Electives, Choose Two (6 credits)

    Students must consult with their advisor before selecting courses that are not already required from Economics (ECN) electives or Data Analytics (DATA) electives.

    Program Learning Outcomes

    This certificate program provides high-quality training in applied data analytics so that graduates will be capable of making data-informed decisions for organizations.

    Upon completion of the Applied Data Analytics Graduate Certificate, graduates will be able to:

    • Apply critical thinking skills with particular attention given to the cultivation and application of scientific reasoning to practical problems and an understanding of ethics as related to all aspects of data analytics.
    • Contribute to the development of knowledge regarding different forms of research design, measurement and data and how to evaluate the quality of data.
    • Demonstrate competencies in a variety of database structures and data mining techniques.
    • Develop and apply knowledge of different types of statistical analysis and statistical software packages to uncover hidden patterns and valuable insights in data.
    • Facilitate information sharing efficient and practical manner by developing written and oral communication skills.
