This course includes materials on organizational structure, culture, decision-making and change management in applying managerial best practices. Classes focus on current legal issues, such as corporate governance, product liability, discrimination, consumer protection, sales, and corruption/bribery.

    MBA 5180 offers the fundamental knowledge for financial management. The three broad groups of financial management techniques are (1) financial planning and control, (2) the efficient allocation of funds among various assets (investment decisions), and (3) acquisition of funds on favorable terms (financing decisions) The emphasis is on financial planning and control for effective investment and financing decision making purposes. Some macro and micro economics will be introduced as well. Students will grasp the fundamental abilities to evaluate investment and financing decisions.

It is stressed throughout that new venture development can happen both within and outside an existing organization.

It covers the legal environment of running a business; the formation, execution and defense of contracts, contract remedies, claims and damages with turnaround applications. Strategic bankruptcy and Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Law protection: debtor versus creditor rights, preference transactions, fraudulent convergences and leases in bankruptcy; bankers' versus lawyers' views of bankruptcy protection are also addressed. Cases and best practices in Bankruptcy Law protection are included.

    MBA 5960 Integrated Field Project in Management

    To reflect the applied nature of the MBA program, participants directly apply what they are learning through immersion in the local community. You work directly in the Detroit community to identify, describe and ultimately provide a solution to a current problem or challenge for an organization, along with the steps necessary for effective implementation. You then submit a report to your faculty adviser and give an oral presentation at the project’s conclusion.
