Description

Detroit Mercy Law School offers a unique three year program with the University of Windsor that culminates in students earning both Canadian and American Juris Doctor degrees. Students who participate in this program are able to stand out in the marketplace through their commitment to a rigorous course of study that provides them with an understanding of two different legal systems. The program permits students to focus on important areas of law, including Immigration Law, Corporate/Commercial Law, and intellectual property.

    Admission Requirements

Detroit Mercy Law welcomes applications from new students to both our American JD and Canadian and American Dual JD Programs

Entering first-year students are admitted only once each year in August. Detroit Mercy Law accepts Transfer Applicants for the fall and spring terms and Guest Applicants for all terms.

To be considered for first-time admission to either program, an applicant must have or expect to receive a bachelor's degree by the summer preceding admission and must have taken the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) within the past five years.

Candidates may apply to one or both programs. Candidates for the American JD Program, must apply through the Law School Admissions Council (LSAC). Candidates for the Canadian & American Dual JD Program may apply either through the Ontario Law School Application Service (OLSAS) or LSAC. Applications to both programs will be considered by their respective admissions committees and candidates will receive two separate decisions.

We encourage candidates to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and to perform at the 50th percentile or better on the LSAT for admission to either program. However, we consider a range of applicants based on all aspects of the application including, but not limited to the following:

    • Letters of recommendation
    • Employment, private and public service, or both
    • The personal statement
    • Resume
    • Undergraduate performance
    • English proficiency

The Dual JD Program Admissions Committee also uses the following criteria to assess applicants:

    • Grade Point Average (GPA) and University Program
    • Work experience
    • Community involvement
    • Personal accomplishments
    • Career objectives
    • Personal considerations
    • Law School Admissions Test Score (LSAT)
