School Counselor Endorsement Only
The School Counselor Endorsement Only program is designed for individuals that possess a Master’s degree in a related education area and a teaching certificate. A 600-hour internship is required for the program. The School Counselor Endorsement Only program does not lead to licensure as a professional counselor (LPC). Individuals completing this program are eligible for the School Counselor Endorsement to the teaching certificate through the Michigan Department of Education. The 30 credit hour (minimum) program generally requires 1-2 years to complete.

This program is available to certified teachers that possess a Master’s degree or higher in a related educational field that wish to work in a school setting as school counselors, guidance directors, student personnel directors, or teachers interested in school counseling principles. This 30 credit hour (minimum) program will qualify students for the School Counselor Endorsement to the Teaching Certificate from the State of Michigan, Department of Education. Additional coursework in counseling may be required based upon the individual's academic history.


Admissions Requirements

The requirements for admission to the certificate programs include: a Master’s degree in a related educational field (School Counselor Endorsement) or in the behavioral sciences, an autobiographical statement explaining your interests in a counseling profession, an interview with the program director, and one letter of recommendation from an individual able to speak to the applicant’s potential for this field.
