Curriculum Vitae

Professor Yantus joined the Detroit Mercy Law faculty in 2016, and currently serves as Director of Externships and Professor of Practice. Prior to joining Detroit Mercy Law, she acted as Managing Attorney of the Plea and Sentencing Unit of the State Appellate Defender Office (SADO) where she supervised and handled indigent felony appeals. While working at SADO and before joining the law school on a full-time basis, Professor Yantus taught courses such as Criminal Sentencing, Criminal Procedure, and the SADO Clinic as an adjunct professor. As a result of her practice at SADO, she received the 2010 Distinguished Brief Award for her brief in People v McGraw, 484 Mich 120 (2009). She was also voted Adjunct Faculty Member of the Year at Detroit Mercy Law for the academic year 2014-2015.

Professor Yantus has appeared numerous times before the Michigan Supreme Court and appeared regularly before the Michigan Court of Appeals and virtually all of the 57 circuit courts of this state. She has also appeared before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Her area of interest is Michigan felony sentencing law, and she regularly lectures on the topic.

Professor Yantus is a graduate of Wayne State University School of Law as well the undergraduate program at Wayne State University.
